Western
A group of German construction workers begin building a hydroelectric power station in a remote region of Bulgaria. However, relations with a nearby village’s inhabitants are difficult. The workers don't understand the language and establish their own little neighbourhood near the dammed-up river, working without local partners and spending evenings around the campfire. As Meinhard explains briefly and pithily, "I'm here to make money!" In the Western genre, to which Valeska Grisebach repeatedly alludes, these workers from Germany would be described as a group of "tough guys". But it appears that Meinhard gradually succeeds in making friends with the locals. His colleague Vincent tracks these rapprochements with jealous mistrust.
